Optimum Curvature Characteristics of Body/Caudal Fin Locomotion

چکیده
Fish propelled by body and/or caudal fin (BCF) locomotion can achieve high-efficiency and high-speed swimming performance, changing their motion to interact with external fluids. This flexural be prescribed through its curvature profile. work indicates that when the fish swims high efficiency, amplitude reaches a maximum at peduncle. In case of swimming, shows three maxima on entire length. It is also demonstrated that, Reynolds number in range 104–106, speed, stride length, Cost Transport (COT) are all positively correlated tail-beat frequency. A sensitivity analysis explains which locations change most switches from mode mode. The comparison among kinds BCF optimal performance thunniform almost same as carangiform fish, while it better not neglect reaction force acting an anguilliform fish. study provides reference for control bionic future time.

Curvature-induced stiffening of a fish fin
How fish modulate their fin stiffness during locomotive manoeuvres remains unknown. We show that changing the fin's curvature modulates its stiffness. Modelling the fin as bendable bony rays held together by a membrane, we deduce that fin curvature is manifested as a misalignment of the principal bending axes between neighbouring rays. An external force causes neighbouring rays to bend and spla...
متن کاملMedian fin function during the escape response of bluegill sunfish (Lepomis macrochirus). II: Fin-ray curvature.
Although kinematic analysis of individual fin rays provides valuable insight into the contribution of median fins to C-start performance, it paints an incomplete picture of the complex movements and deformation of the flexible fin surface. To expand our analysis of median fin function during the escape response of bluegill sunfish (Lepomis macrochirus), patterns of spanwise and chordwise curvat...

This study explores the dichotomy between undulatory (passing multiple waves down the fin or body) and oscillatory (flapping) locomotion by comparing the kinematics of pectoral fin locomotion in eight species of batoids (Dasyatis americana, D. sabina, D. say, D. violacea, Gymnura micrura, Raja eglanteria, Rhinobatos lentiginosus and Rhinoptera bonasus) that differ in their swimming behavior, ph...
متن کاملMagneto-mechanical actuation model for fin-based locomotion
In this paper, we report the results from the analysis of a numerical model used for the design of a magnetic linear actuator with applications to fin-based locomotion. Most of the current robotic fish generate bending motion using rotary motors which implies at least one mechanical conversion of the motion. We seek a solution that directly bends the fin and, at the same time, is able to exploi...
